When two tournament organizers are hungry, they go to Squirly's and have a mezcal margarita.

On Saturday, September 26, 2026, Toronto's Geocities of Brass hosted the third annual Brasslands old school Magic: The Gathering tournament and best friends get-together at 918 Bathurst St. In total, 60 wizards gathered for six rounds of Boreal (plus unlimited Plague Rats) shenanigans.
Folks came from far and wide, including exotic locations such as Oshawa, the Couv, Rochester, Ottawa, the east end, Kitchener, Waterloo, Montreal, Boston and probably some other places.

Toronto events are a community organized thing. We've been doing this for the better part of a decade now, and every year everyone comes together to do what needs to be done. Insurance, liquor licence, prize cards, raffle prizes, venue, etc. It takes a village, and we have a big one.
Logistics aside, one of the best parts of getting ready for a tournament is craft night. This is the night that I (Tristan) stay up until 3am making buttons, magnets, stamping cards, cutting pieces of paper, stamping paper, making packs, gluing paper, crimping paper and making a huge mess that will take me weeks to recover from. Some say there's still a mess on my counter and kitchen table to this very day.

Playing Magic is fun too. This year we got to play in the beautiful space that is 918 Bathurst.

Illegal raffle prizes this year included three amazing playmats, artist proofs, handcrafted trike arm tokens and more!

The Couv folks showed up to have a celebratory drink at world famous Hank's.

Shortly after, the Ottawa folks showed up and tried to kill me by liver empicklement.

All in all, a good night.
The Toronto events are a community driven DIY effort and wouldn't be possible without the time, money and effort from:
Derfington, Brian Bogdon, Mike Yam, Rick Blaschke, Joel Bowers, Tristan Bates, Cameron Gilpin, Jason Shaw, Eric Do.
After our very thorough accounting and a little bit of rounding, we raised $2k for the Parkdale Community Food Bank. Thank you all for your generous donations, beer purchases and raffle ticket purchases.

Next stop is Ottawa for ChaosCon on November 14th. See you there.
